Industry update | October 2026
The United Arab Emirates has made its Maritime Pre-Load Cargo Information (MPCI) programme mandatory from 1 October 2026. The requirement applies to cargo destined for, transiting through or transshipping via the UAE, making advance cargo data an important part of shipment preparation.
What this means for freight forwarders
- Collect complete and accurate shipment details early.
- Confirm that the required filing has been submitted and the relevant reference is available before cargo is loaded.
- Coordinate with shippers, carriers and customs partners to resolve missing or inconsistent information.
- Allow time for requests for information and operational checks.
Incomplete or late information can create a risk of shipment delays or cargo being rolled to a later sailing. Requirements and implementation practices may evolve, so teams should verify current instructions with their carrier and the relevant UAE authorities before dispatch.
How to prepare
Build advance cargo-data checks into your booking workflow and confirm responsibilities with each party before the cargo reaches the port or airport.
